World Environment Day June 5th 2002
Ecohousing Building Systems was invited to erect an Eco-Friendly House – a 2 Bedroom Sustainable Energy Green Building in Brisbane’s King George Square, in front of Brisbane’s City Hall.
Four Main Principals
The Eco-Friendly House had to fulfil the four main principals developed internationally for Ecologically Sustainable Green Buildings:
1. Reduce energy usage
2. Minimise external pollution and environmental damage
3. Reduce embodied energy and resource depletion
4. Minimise internal pollution and damage to health
There were only two days in which to erect the Eco-Friendly House and in spite of rainy weather the Ecohousing crew succeeded in getting the building up and had it furnished in modern style, fitted out with energy saving White goods & water saving features, in time for the opening by Brisbane’s Deputy Lord Mayor Tim Quinn, the Minister for Environment Dean Wells and the Minister for Tourism Merri Rose.
In addition to the energy saving features the Eco-Friendly House also needed to reflect the Queensland lifestyle by featuring open living areas. The Eco-Friendly House erected easily filled the above criteria and become a major highlight of the event.
